Are you keeping the litterbox clean? Cats will often rebel if their litterboxes are not kept clean and routinely disinfected. Make sure your cat isn't reacting to something in its environment before trying a solution. Your cat may be trying to get attention because it has to compete with your child.
Keeping the door shut is the easiest and cheapest approach. Cats typically do not choose to defecate in one spot outside the litterbox because that's not a behavior that 'marks' their territory like urination. Try keeping the door shut and seeing if that works and the cat doesn't go elsewhere. Otherwise you may want to try Feliaway phermone releasers to calm your pet.
Good luck.

Ok 1st of all... I am sure you have a litter box for the kitty and closing the door would definately be a good idea but if you must leave the door open, try thyme oil...
Thyme oil is non-evasive to humans but cats cannot stand the smell.. I had problems keeping my cats outta my plants and I found out that Thyme oil works... Usually can be found in a good supermarket(preferably like an Organic store..)If that is not possible, Try a health food store .. In some cases , they will order it for you..
I live near Austin Texas so we have alot of health food stores that actually carry Thyme Oil... It really works... Good Luck and I hope this helped :)

The best way to stop your cat pooing anywhere it's not suppose to is to train it to use a litter tray. Put the litter tray in the bathroom where the cat likes to poo. Your cat will naturally use the litter tray because, unlike dogs who leave their poo laying around for us careless humans to step into, cats like to bury their poo. Just watch your cat when it uses the litter tray. When it has finished, it will cover the poo over with the kitty litter. You do, of course, have to regularly change the kitty litter every few days. Oh yes, and make sure your 3 year old learns not to think of the litter tray as his/her personal sand pit.

The cat needs to be taught a lesson. The bucket of cold water normally works
Keep a bucket of cold water in the bathroom
When the cat does it's little message you must catch it in the act and grab it and dump it right in the water, full depth. Let go very quick and watch the darn thing go
The shock will make it associate the poo thing indoors with the cold water
Normally works well

My 4 year previous son had the suitable comparable situation a pair of year in the past. He could be so busy enjoying that he could attempt to hold it and carry it till he could ultimately have an twist of fate and then he could conceal it because of the fact he did not choose to get in situation and much greater because of the fact he did not choose to end doing despite it substitute into long adequate to get all wiped sparkling up. We tried staying calm and reasoning with him. We tried taking issues away. We tried yelling and spanking (on the grounds which you think of not something has labored and he's conscious a thank you to bypass interior the potty). We tried treats. He could be effective for a week or 2 and then it may ensue returned. ultimately, after Halloween final year we had quite some candy interior the bowl left over. He saved requesting it and we advised him he could pick after he went poopy interior the potty. He has not made a large number on the grounds that. something approximately that super pink bowl (nonetheless the Halloween bowl) crammed with all varieties of diverse candy that he gets to pick between daily. this is like his very own very own holy grail. this is attending to %.. i don't understand why. we've of path replenished the bowl usually so as that there are a number of particularly some issues to pick between. fantastically, some days as a substitute of nerds or candy brownies he will %. little programs of yogurt coated raisins or little gummy snacks made with actual fruit. i think of i could thoroughly fill it with healthful snacks and it may artwork in basic terms besides. yet i don't choose to debris with a competent difficulty. One piece of candy an afternoon is a small value to pay for not having to wipe my son's hiney.

Firstly, shut the door. Cats hate citrus smells so use orange/lemon Flash or rub an orange skin (outside part) along the door frame/skirting board., and sprinkle black pepper along the edge of the carpet. They hate it on their paws. Trying squirting him with water if you see him entering the bathroom too. I have a 16 wk old kitten. It works with him.

Who do you care more about? The cat or the 3 year old?
It's got to be the 3 year old, so get rid of the filthy, disease spreading cat. It's quite simple.
One day your child will get some nasty infection unless you get rid of the cat. It's a mobile germ spreading factory walking around your house, in the toilet then in the kitchen, ugh!

Stalk the cat and when you catch it pooping in the bathroom scare the living bejaysus out of it. Singe its fur, spray burning hot water on it, play loud death metal, bring in a couple of dogs to chase it around the room, or better still wear a giant dog costume and bite it a few times. It will never poop there again, but it may start crapping in your bed instead.

Move its litter tray and keep the door closed. Pepper is supposed to work but my 2 seemed to be immune to it!

The best thing to do would be to put some litter in a tray down for her. Or keep the door shut. Each time she does it tell her off and put her nose in it she will soon learn its not her toilet.
