Men will be man and the more you remind him of how he may not be able... the harder he will push to go.
We all die of something darling... as harsh a reality as that may be, it is true. Better to die doing something he loves than to die with his butt pinned to a chair in front of the telly right?
Sometimes when we love people, we need to realize that the greatest kind of love sometimes involves letting them go... It is hard to let people go but it is necessary to their health and well being and in a way, by allowing him to (even if the worst case scenario happens in the process.) If it is what they wanted, you did the right thing.
Happiness is relative and it doesn't make him love you any less for doing something that makes him feel like both a man, and alive even if it takes him from you in the process. Don't take it from him if you love him... Trust in your higher power and in his ability as a man to make it through, when he can no longer go, he will know it!
Just keep him away from Dick Cheney and he will be fine! LOL

Make sure you increase his insurance policy on him. I don't know what his intentions are but, he's got a death wish.
I've hunted Deer in the Midwest for many years until I became ill then it became too much. I quit, it was the Deer or me, I figured I was more important then the Deer.
He could be trying to prove something to you, trying to say something to you. Maybe you should make a stand, maybe this is what he's waiting for, you to make a stand, way down deep and tell him to sit home with you. Ask him, tell him your afraid to be home alone, this type of thing, see what happens. It might work, if this is truly what you want.

Tell him if anything happens to him in the woods, you won't go looking for him! I know it sounds horrible but that was the only thing that brought my dad into his sense when he insisted to go hiking in the mountains alone at the age of 70! He had a bypass surgery 30 years ago and have had 2 heart attacks since his surgery, so you can see why we all were worried about him going hiking alone.

Make sure he packs plenty of food and snacks, carries a cell phone for emergencies, and tell him to be careful. As much as you worry, it is good that he still wants to get out and do the activity he enjoys...life is for living

let him go, it probably is a great stress reliever for him, and keeps him healthier than you'd think, people who are active get farther in life than the ones who sit at home and do nothing. you could have him call you every so often to check in, and know his location, so if he misses or forgets a check in call, you could go or send someone to check up on him
