Blimey! damsel, princess even, in dis...stress! :-) Just keep going until you're happy it is white enough for you. I have given up to five coats of white in the past, to give a 100% no hint of a shadow white when covering strong colours, but I am a flipping perfectionist lol.

Ive done a lot of DIY in my flat, in the last five years. What I found as the best option, to cover any bright paint surfaces, is use two coats of a cheep matt emultion, then cover with two coats of good quality paint of your final colour.
THis has success fully covered both a totally black wall, which is now a cream colour and a bright green wall, which is now a pale blue.
I am going to takle the bright orange in my spare room next.

Mid orange emulsion, how 70's darling. Oh those student days of orange.
Bet on 3 coats to be good enough.

Wash walls with Sugar Soap (get the greasy deposits off) then 3 coats of good quality emulsion. Strangely, you can tell the quality of emulsion by the weight of the can. Heavier it is, the denser it is, the better cover you will get.

Yes it will cover but you might need 3 to 4 coats because you might see dark shadows coming through the white. Use a really good white paint as cheap ones will require even more coats.
