I usually write it as follows,
November 26, 2006
however, I remember someone telling me if you want to look professional you write it like the British, which I believe would be,
26 November 2006.
Is this correct?

I'll still have to think when you Americans go on about 9/11. So what happened in November.

I don't know about it looking more professional, but you're right that in Britain we write the date as 26 November 2006. (day/month/year)

yes it is 26/11/06 that's how we write in India too.. since the british ruled India for a long time!
