C'mon Dido, what makes you think a simple wedding ceremony needs spicing up??? Meaningful and memorable I'm with you. But that doesn't have to mean something extraordinary nor lavish.

I say leave the wedding ceremony planning to the dearly beloveds. Concentrate on how you can make THEIR wedding more meaningful and memorable. Take pics and then make a slideshow to give them. How about taking a bunch of random pics from their reception or after-party and making a picture collection to hang on the wall. That's what I did for my mother's 85th birthday - took pics, then bought a big frame with templates and put party pictures in there.

please don't do a butterfly release. they are normally very disappointing and often inhumane as many of the butterflies are either already dead or get out of the box and fall down dead right away. live releases are never very successful but a balloon release can be very lovely. little messages can be put on or in the balloons for when they land somewhere miles away. as for the reception thing, it depends upon how many guests you have but a thousand dollars should easily provide some simple hot and cold hor d'eouvre selections and punch for your guests for a little stand up reception after the wedding. most churches or wedding venues have some foyer space or even outdoor space where you could set up something simple but hospitable. if it is in the evening, you could give everyone sparklers to light as you leave. that looks great in photos.

Check out ebay. I just got married 3 months ago and I got a lot of simple wedding things off ebay, such as bubbles in little champagne shaped containers and disposable cameras. I would recommend looking on ebay over the dollar store. For the same price you can get wedding themed cameras, bubbles, simple decor that will all coordinate and match. I listed the seller on ebay that I purchased all my wedding decor from. Very reliable, fast, cheap.

Well, is the ceremony going to be right in a courthouse or what?

If it's a simple one at home, you can make it very romantic with candles, and deco.

If in a courthouse, there isn't much you can do, unless you beg the courts to let you have a room to decorate.

Just making sure she has a beautiful dress to wear will make it more than simple.

I don't think anything could be more meaningful and memorable than just to look around and see the smiling faces of those that care about you and love you.
Any other suggestions is difficult to say (not enough info). But, if she hasn't chosen any flowers to carry, and if she likes fragrances, ..make sure she has freesia, or stocks,..something sweet and fragrant in her bouquet. :o) Congrats!..and have a wonderful time!

You could have them light a unity candle or write their own vows. I feel that this is a sacred religious ceremony, so why try to "spice it up"? It will be memorable as it is.
