I was really scared of going to the dentist. I'm 16 now and had my first appointment back in September after about 8 years because I was so terrified of the dentist. But now, I'm getting all my teeth fixed and straightened and once it's over I know I'll be beautiful. I know all the drills and needles are scary and some procedures hurt, but it's worth it.

Be brave and go to the dentist. It's never as bad as it seems!

MONK!!!!!!! :) jk
maybe its the smell. I always hate going to the hospital cuz of the smell--it always makes me feel like i'm gonna throw up. Maybe its the same w/the dentist...or that the doc if puttin his/her hands in your mouth--the drill.......
I'm not scared of going to the dentist--well, the 1st and only tooth i've ever gotten taken out, i was scared cuz i didnt know if it was gonna hurt or what was gonna happen. That was the only time i was scared--except for my old dentist--HE WAS MEAN!!!! It DID hurt there, and his last name was hale--but he hurt your mouth--Those times were when i was scared of the dentist, but not anymore--i hav a nice dentist, and it doesnt hurt, or scare me.

My fear of the dentist almost caused me to lose all of my teeth. When I did go to the dentist it was all I could do not to go running out of the office screaming. I was that terrified. I finally found a gentle, kind dentist who has been taking care of my teeth. You need to visit with different dentists until you find a caring and considerate one. I wish you luck!

TERRIFIED! i put it down to bad experiences when I was a little kid. I didn't go for 12 years until 2 years ago when I had RAGING toothache for 4 days. In the end, I couldn't stand it any longer. Went along & had 2 extractions - was in a dreadful state, crying & sweating but in honesty, it wasn't too dreadful. What upset me most was my nerves being soooo bad. I felt like a baby making such a scene but they were very kind to me. I had some hypnosis afterwards which made me feel positive about going regularly - but I haven't!! If I HAD to go again, I'd have some more hypnotherapy before hand.

It's that thing of having someone put their fingers in the mouth.. gross! Plus I remember having a traumatic experience at the dentist as a little kid... the dentist drilled into my tooth before the novacaine took effect.

There are many people afraid of going to the dentists. They even have signs in dentists windows that they cater to cowards.

Impacted wisdom teeth hurt me worse than labor with my child.

when i was younger i broke my two front teeth and spent to much of my childhood at the dentist. they couldn't give me crowns as i was still growing, so they capped them, but it discoloured my teeth, so they were very dark - i hated them and hardly ever smiled. now when i go to the dentist, she calls me the day before and on the morning of my appointment to reassure me everything will be ok . if i'm getting any work done i need 3-4 jags to make sure i don't feel anything.
it takes a lot of courage for me to make an appointment ,...

RED THIS ONE! I was terrified at one time. I found a dentist that administers nitrous oxide prior to work. It relaxes you. I didn't care about pain after, I even laughed. Another word for it is laughing gas.

Now, being a lot older, I just try to relax and take deep breaths before the injection.

It's normal to be scared of the dentist. They know that so they do their best not to hurt you.
