My dog was recently neutered, and the vet noticed that one of his testicles was missing...he had an amputation at the same time, which was extensive so the vet decided not to open him up and search for the missing testicle. He says it must have been severed or severely injured in the accident that required his leg to be amputated. He says if I have problems with my dog and any aggressive male behaviors I should bring him in and they will do an exploratory looking for the missing testicle. Another vet says that when he is healed from the current surgery, he should have another to look for the testicle as ones that do not drop from the abdomen are more likely to turn to cancer...he is 2 years old so the testicle should have dropped by now right? Should I take him in after he recovers and get it checked out or listen to the first one and wait and see? Thank you for your answers...

It is NOT uncommon for a testicle to stay up inside a dogs abdomen. This is a common genetic fault, and is why a show judge will always check to make sure that both are down as they should be.

If a testicle should not drop it can lead to serious problems, so you will absolutely want to check to make sure.

That is a really tough question. I know you prob don't want to, but maybe a 3rd opinion? At least then maybe you'll have a 2 to 1 answer. If it were my dog, I'd go w/ the 2nd vet. I would not want to run the risk of cancer. I would think it should have dropped by now also. It may or may not turn into cancer, but I could not chance it.

Good luck and I hope all turns out ok.

You do what you think is right. You could take him to another vet for the 3rd opinion. It is possible that your dog was born with one testicle. Sometimes Doctors[vets] makes mistakes. And if he was severely injured it could have been severed.

Personally it is a proven fact that most men and dogs WILL HAVE PROSTATE CANCER if they live to be old.Same thing happened to my Cocker 16yrs old They did these expensive surgeries and guess what he died of PROSTATE CANCER.Be fore the grueling ordeal of having him put to sleep due to severe uncontrollable pain and constant horrible drainage he had the very thing all the previous surgeries were suppose to prevent!!!Be your own judge, but I would do no more surgery! He lived to be 16yrs old before all the trouble began, and was very healthy.

I would suggest to wait after he heals and then take him back in asap and make sure it isn't cancerous
