My daughter had a lump which literally appeared over night when she was about 16 months old. I took her to the doctor, who sent her to hospital, she was admitted and after much poking proding and injecting they decided decided it was a non specific virus which would go away on it's own and it did. My sister had a similar experience with her son at around that age. Having said that with little ones you never know. I'd telephone the doctor and ask to speak to him/her explain your worries. He might be able to make time to see you sooner.

I would call his pediatrician. They should have someone on call that can answer your questions. If it has been there for a week, I wouldn't think one more day would hurt. Is it discolored? Is it painful for him? Try touching it when he isn't paying attention. Does it look like a bug bite? These are all things to think about. I wouldn't wait any longer than tomorrow.
If his pediatrician can't see him in a decent amount of time, then ask them if they think you should take him to the emergency room or Urgent Care (we have a Good Night Pediatrics that is like an urgent care but open from 5pm till 5am).

Get him to the doctor as soon as you can. It could be abug bite but could also be something serious. A two year old child knows if it is too sore to touch but the doctor could lance it and find out what is making it sore. Good luck and God bless you and your family.

It could just be an infected gland, someting like tomsilitis, or a boil. Anything on a toddler that doesn't go away within 48 - 72 hours must be looked at, especially if it is tender.

He is your son. Do want YOU think you should do, and ignore your mom. He won't let you touch it, so it's obvious that it is causing him pain and distress. Think about how you would feel if you were his shoes- you were hurting and your mother wouldn't help you because nanny said it isn't bothering him?
Please, take your son to be checked out.

you need to make an appointment with his ped. all the ER will tell you is to take him to see his ped. anyways. the ER is really ony for temp. relief until you can go to the doctor. if there is ever anything like that, you dont hesitate to make an appointment with the doctor, no matter who tells you not to.

If he won't let anyone touch it then it probably hurts so you should definatly go to the ER.
