www.heifer.org is the BEST. They have raised over 83 million dollars and over 60 million of that went directly to aid which is a wonderful record. You donate and they send a milk goat or hive of bees or llama or hens and chicks to a villager and this becomes a lifelong earning and survival tool. Best thing is that the initial farmer recing the anumals must, in turn, give one of the animal's offspring to another poor farmer within a year so your initial gidt keeps on spreading an giving. We gave a colection of poultry and a goat and hive of bees to a village for less than $200. and sent emails and cards to family members saying that this was what christmas was all about!! All the kids were pleased, no one grumbled, and the world is a better place! People want to fight when they are hungry. Peace is better achieved when helping hands are there and people have an opportunity to feed their families and have a sense of pride.

In the slums of Nairobi, there is a slum in despicable poverty and to try and help the residents, there is Ruben centre that tries to help in the best way they can but resources do not always allow. This would be an entry point for you. I have worked in the slums so I can talk from experience. if you are interested,i can give you the address of the Brother in charge.

I sponsor a little girl in Tanzania through www.actionaid.org.uk

It costs 50p a day which is just the price of a chocolate bar, which non of us would think twice about paying out for.

She sends me letters and pictures, and makes me feel like I am making a difference.

Go to yahoo and type in help in african countries....I'm sure that there are tons of websites out there devoted to helping out African countries. Look at Sudan, that country has been in the news lately, and I'm sure there are a bunch of websites out there. Maybe try Madonna's website too -- With her adoption I think she's got a website devoted to the African country that her son came from.
