i have 3 nine-week old kittens, and i came to check on them this morning and saw that one of the kitten's eye was swollen and a little red. i thought maybe one of the other kittens accidentally scratched him in the eye. what could have happened to his eye?

A scratch is definitely a possibility in rambunctious kittens! Your veterinarian can easily check for a scratch by adding a little fluorescent solution to the eye and shining a UV light into it. If there is a scratch, the eye will glow green under the light.

It also may be simple irritation from a little dust or other foreign material in the eye, allergies or infection. In any case, a trip to the vet is recommended.

Good luck and congrats and the three new additions!

Well if the eye is closing up it's obviously bothering her! Cats NEVER show pain or discomfort unless it's agony - it's not in their survival instinct to do so. But would you not be uncomfortable if you had a red, weepy closed up eye? Now this could be an eye infection, or the start of a tooth root abscess, they often present as affecting the eye. Either way, only thing you can do is keep the eye clean by wiping with cotton wool soaked in cooled, boiled water. Then get her to a vet within the next couple of days. It's already getting worse since you first noticed it; don't wait for it to get worse still and end up compromising her sight. Chalice

There's nothing to really fret about, all it more then likely is just an eye infection. Usualy as long as you're feeding him, he'll be just fine. But if you want, you can go to the vet and get eye drops. It'll be a little hard to use it, but usualy the process goes faster.

Any number of things. You might want to wash it out with a gentle eye-wash solution to help remove any foreign material that might be irritating the eye.

probably just a little infection - but you will want a vet to give you medicine for this so nothing else happens to the littel one's eye.

yeah wash its eye and maybe get him to see the vet in case of infection if it doesn't go down.

could have been playing with its littermates and gotten scratched. It sounds like it should be looked at. they are ready to go to new homes, also.
