Acid rain is caused when particulates from burning fuels get up into the atmosphere and mix with water droplets in the clouds. This then drops as acid rain.

The only link with the sea is that sea water evaporates and goes up into the clouds. That is a very good thing. It gives us rain to water the land. It is only when the pollution mixes with it that the problem occurs.

One other possible answer is that when acid rain falls into the sea it is neutralised and absorbed, thereby cleaning it for us!!

Acid rain probably did not cause the plant damage u saw. I worked in west Texas in the oil fields and there are plants that compress the gas and separate the H2S from the gas and burn it. This when burned makes SO2 whine mixed with water is acid rain. there was a lot of it around the plants but it did not harm the plant life.
