I have a concern regarding my 9 yr old dalmation. When we go out for walks, she likes ot eat grass, which seems normal enough. But today she was digging in the wet grass , through mud too adn then ate what she dug up. She is well fed adn I wonder if there is something wrong with her?

mm mm, i have a 3 year old Dal, who more or less does the same thing.i just put it down to him being over excited, and using an impulsive way of burning off excess energy.
as long as it doesn't make him I'll, and he's not causing too much damage, i don't mind, tho the fact he goes out as a dalmatian, and comes back looking like a chocolate labrdoor..........

Most dogs eat grass to help out their digestion - in my experience, really not anything to worry about. As far as the mud eating, I see a lot of dogs doing this in the park where we go in the a.m. My dog hasn't ever suffered any ill effects from doing this and I take it as a sign that we've been standing around for too long..."I'm bored....hey, if I just eat a little mud, that always gets a big reaction from Mom!"

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I have two dalmatians the 13 yr old used to eat grass all the time, then throw up - the vet said this was fine.
My other one has just turned three and she will eat anything, from grass to poo to rabbit food.
I have a border collie and he is much more refined.

I have come to the conclusion that dalmatians are greedy and will eat almost anything.

I really don't think this is strickly a dalmation problem. I have black lab who not only eats the grass and dirt she actually grazes like a cow. she's brought home lots of things to eat, i think it's just a dogs nature either out of boredom or curriosity.

Iron pills are toxic to dogs!
Your dog may be eating worms and bugs, or mice. Its normal. They are predators.
Just keep her worming medication up to date! As long as she's getting a good quality dog food and looks fit and healthy, she's ok, and enjoying the snacks.

Dogs enjoy the small of stinky things in the grass. They roll in it and have fun.

HMMM! Your friend (family member) is lacking some minerals she is female then it would be IRON at her age. You can get some iron pills however, I come from the old school and would feed her some Liver lightly cooked! not all the way done- more rare to mid med rare. this is high IRON and she will be just as good as you can expect. Infact she will love you for doing this for her. If you hate touching the liver and doing this then (so what you must!) remember she really needs this OK!

Dalmation! I love them
