I am a Christian, and it is easy to see that we are quite hated on this forum. This is not "Religious Persecution" as one might hope, but the reapings of being a mean, arrogant, self-righteous person. How do you hope to be able to successfuly communicate the Gospel or the Mind of Christ to others if you say things that are insulting to others, such as atheists? Have you forgotten that our righteousness was imputed to us by God's grace, based on what Christ did, and that we did nothing to deserve it? We still have done nothing to deserve it. Christians, am I way off base? What's wrong with communicating Truth without insulting others?

Here's the thing. I myself know that what I believe concerning who and what God is, the way to salvation, and the Christian way of life is correct. Anyone who disagrees with my beliefs (if it involves a Doctrine I have been taught at this point) is wrong. I am just that confident in the teaching that I have recieved. However, telling someone else you are wrong and I am right simply does not work. You must first present a logical, well-grounded basis for the Truth so that the other person can begin to see the reality of the Doctrine and the error in what they percieve as being correct. When it comes to the Bible, the only way you are going to find this well-grounded basis is by going back to the origianl languages of the old and new testaments. Otherwise you are relying on the accuracy of an English translation. What do you think?

Buddhists have been the greatest influence on me because of their lack of preaching and judgement. I wish the face of christianity were the same. There are many christians who don't do this -- and who don't even believe in things like an afterlife -- but they're drowned out by those who brand them as heretical. Ironically, those who are the most fundamentalist are the ones with the deepest investment in their egos -- believing and doing good to get an eternal reward from some deity. It's also ironic that Jesus described the fundamentalists with the 'good' son in the prodigal son parable and yet 99.99999% of those who display those dynamics don't see it.

As a Wiccan, I believe that everyone must find their own path. That's why it still bothers me when people try to actively convert me to their religion. It's not just Christians, I've also been asked to become Muslim and Atheist.
The problem with that is that especially with Christianity and Islam, the tactics always come down to fear and judgement.
Really, who knows the mind of God/Goddess? I don't think as mere humans, our minds are meant to develop to a level where we could understand it.
We can't really conceive of all the mysteries of the universe. Therefore, it's no one's right to judge other's religion as any less than their own.

WELL PUT!! The last time I went to church they openly bashed homosexuals. That was about a month ago and I had been getting fed up with my pastor and everyone there always saying "Homosexuallity is bad" "If you break the law you're a bad person" "Anyone who doesn't believe what we believe is bad" and I always thought Christianity was supposed to bring us up in life. Y'know? Make us happy so we can make others happy! Not insult other groups and confuse us by saying "this is bad and it needs to be stopped" and then the next week telling us that we need to be tolerant and be friends with everyone.

Dude, I was raised Christian, and I totally get what you are saying! Why are so many Christians get to be more and more intollerant, hateful, snotty, and bigoted the deeper and more "God - fearing" they get? I was raised to believe everyone was equal in the eyes of the Lord, and He loves all of us, yet after Church services were over, the very people who thought they were the most pious were the most discriminating.
I can only believe that they turn away from the "rest of us" because they want their "purity" to be tainted. Or maybe they are trying to hard to be Christ-like they forget HE WAS HUMAN TOO AND DIED FOR ALL OF OUR SINS.

Well I'm glad that you, as a christian, are not arrogant and self-righteous like our christian fellows.
The thing is, christians believe they're right and everybody else is wrong. So they show that in these forums.
It sucks, I know, but hey! Christians are idiots for believing in creation, why can't they be idiots in this too?

Amen Christians can be very annoying and self righteous there is a difference between speaking your mind and undermining someone. People need to realize that none of us are perfect not one except for God and God alone and Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Some Christians are just control freaks who need to get "knocked off" their high horse.
We should speak the truth but NOT insult others, to be a light for Christ is to shine for Him not be loud overbearing and obnoxious what we should do is to give honor and praise to the Lord the chief end of man is NOT to constantly prove our points BUT rather to glorify God.
No body likes a know it all but we need to be seekers of God and the word of God and His truth.
Peace be with you and thank you for posting this well needed question.

Read the words of Martin Luther and then realize the intolerance by protestants has only gotten stronger since the 1500s. Most catholic intolerance comes in the form of self-guilt, but protestants are perfectly willing to hurl it at anyone.

I have a friend who is very religious and when she tries to talk to me about religion, she's very rude and mean.
My opinion is, being rude to people and insulting them isn't going to make them feel any better or want to learn about Christianity. I don't go to church very often but I still do, and having ramdom people, or even friends telling me what I believe in is wrong isn't the way to go about it. I'm sure you can get your feeling and beliefs across without preaching and yelling at us.
I don't think He would want you bringing people down.

you're able to bear in mind no longer all worldwide places are like u . s .. If one non secular team in u . s . attacked yet another non secular team, law enforcement officials and nationwide Guardsmen would separate the scuffling with factions and press costs against the worry causers. In some worldwide places, the police and protection rigidity would take factors with one team against yet another. it is not 'intolerance' merely their way of doing issues. in no way take American law enforcement officials or nationwide Guardsmen with no attention.

YEs I believe you speak the truth. However, maybe some Christians are not trying to belittle maybe they are just be taken wrongly. After all Jesus himself yelled at the religious leaders for being hypocrits.
