Guys, what does it mean when a guy referres to a girl-friend as 'his girl'. Like "Hey, just checking in to see how my girl is doing..."

Not that I am complaining, I love being called that. But, is it a protection thing? or something else?

if you guys werent best rfiend or just close friends, and u dont have a boyfriend, then it maybe cause he likes you and considers you as his own girlfriend, just waiting for you to ask him
