You could just say that you think the relationship is not getting anywhere and that you feel that you need to move on and see other people because there are more fish in the sea.And maybe you guys could just be friends. If he takes it too hard then just try to fall back on the memories you used to have and give him a memorie book of the good times. If he throws it away then you tried.

There's no nice way to brake up with anyone....it's still going to hurt.

like most girls do ! They start a silly arguement and make it sound like it's all their fault and that gives them an excuse to break up, then they call you back and tell you they was on the rag and want to get back together again but since they've been seperated so long it's best it ended this way, because they never know what will happen next time. SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT DON"T YOU THINK SO !

Be honest with him. Tell him that you just see him as a friend and you just don't feel the same. Tell him he is a nice guy and bring his self-esteem up and say that there will be someone else who likes him for who he is. (Kinda even out the "rejection.") You just don't feel the same way.

You tell him, in person, that it's not working out, you don't feel the same (whatever the reason) but that he's still a great guy.Try not to blame it on anyone.

That's something you can never do really nicely, if he loves you, and I assume he does.

You still have an interest not to hurt him, so you may hesitate to be honest with him. (That's what I read from your question.) He deserves honesty, not bluntly, but quickly.
