There's more than one way you can do this, but the simplest way is this:
1) Open both pictures in your art program.
2) Pick the larger of the two and enlarge the canvas. You can do this by finding the button or menu tab that says "Adjust Canvas" or "Canvas Size" and it should bring up a window that allows you to input the new size and how you want to align the existing contents. Type in the appropriate amount of pixels that will allow you fit the second picture above/below/beside the first.
3) Switch to the second picture and select all (usually Ctrl+A) then copy it to the clipboard (usually Ctrl+C).
4) Switch back to the first picture and paste the second picture (on the clipboard) as a new layer (Ctrl+L on my program, but you might have to go to the Edit menu tab, go to paste as, then select paste as new layer).
5) You should have the second picture appear on top of the first. Switch back to the orignal second picture and close the window. You won't need it any more and it will free up memory resources since you have less active pictures.
6) Select your Move tool and repostition the second picture to where you want it. Then flatten the image by merging all layers, you may have to go to the layers menu tab, go to merge, then select merge all (Flatten).
7) If there are edges you want to get rid of you'll have to select your Crop tool and box the area of the picture you want to keep. Once you have the picture assembled be sure to use "Save As" and rename the combined picture. This way your originals will still be okay.

you can join two pictures by taking one and editing the background ( in paint)to make one solid colour to do that you need to make your image large size then fill in what you don't want with one colour I use black to do that use the solid rectangle cover in what you don't want using this tool , to get the areas close to the object you are keeping use the paint brush, then change the black to white paint then copy the picture and paste it into the other picture when pasting click on the dotted rectangle and click on the bottom of the two this should make the background clear. then paste it where ever you want it on the second picture. It will take a little practise and eventually you can do it quickly.

I sincerely advise you to use COREL Photo Paint (at least 9); I made a lot of graphics and videos, in me spare time I do films using just images. It's a kind of magic! ;-)

With my PS Studio editing, you click on Edit and find 'Stitch', call up both of the photos and stitch them together........... use copies to start with and save your originals. You can also then save the stitched version............... quite simple............
