I think most cats do this. I know I have had 3 cats who have loved ankles. My father and I both had very thin ankles and when my father was alive his ankles were very attractive to my cats. It is a game. They are just playing though sometimes it can be annoying. It is hard to give out because it really is only a game. I think they want some action

Because she can reach your ankles.
It's her way of saying "don't stop!"
We have 2 cats and for some reason when my husband uses Lifebouy, Zest or Irish Spring soap in the shower the one cat will bit his ankles all the way from the bathroom to the bedroom. It must be an ingredient common to all 3 soaps that makes her want to attack or mate with his ankles - one of the two.
At least your cat pays attention to you. Some only do when it's dinner time.

My cat also does it and it is irritating. At the beginning I didn't understand why so I searched literature. And I read somewhere that when a cat is being petted by someone it accepts this petting because it imagines that he/she is a small kitten treated like that by his mom, and then he/she reminds that indeed he is a predator so he/she attacks to prove it.

lol someone asked a similar question that i answered. Your cat is only playing with you :). Is he an indoor cat? He's probably not getting enough stimulation. Give him some toys and catnip. Even something as simple as rolling a ball of paper in front of him.

Ankle biting and sudden attacks are most often associated with predatory aggression. Cats have a strong natural desire to hunt. Inside the house, there isn't much to satisfy this desire.

Mine does it all the time. Shes a playful cat, looking for action. When i pet her just once, then walk away she gets a little mad and wants more so she bites my ankle.

Play & hunt are basically the same instinct in any cat. People think it cruel when a cat 'plays' a mouse to death, but it's cat behaviour. She wants to play. Also, you're of interest, especially if you feed and pet her, so she wants to 'mark' you with scent from her saliva & paws to say you're hers.

Just being playful...cats will seem to be attacking things but are really in their own world when it comes to creating new whys of entertaining themselves. Happy cat!

I have a friend who fed their cat soft cat food. And whan she stopped giving it to her cat, her cat attacked her legs so she'd give her more soft food. It's because she wants to get your attention so you'll pet her some more.
