E-3 is pretty much automatic within 1 to 1 1/2 years unless you get in any kind of disciplinary trouble. Pretty easy, really.

I came into the Navy as an E1 in 1997. Nine months later, I was E2, 9 months after that, I was E3.
Six months later after I took an advancement exam, I made E4. One year from that, after another advancement exam, I made E5.
All of this was under 4 years of service.
Some people are meritoriously advanced in boot camp, up to E3, and for "A" school, the person who is the highest in the class can be eligible for "Accelerated Advancement" and may be advanced to E4 six months after being on board their command and being recommended by their CO.

Why would you settle for E-3 in 4 years???? A dunce can do that.
My daughter made E-5 in just bairly over three years.
The Air Force has several programs if a person wants to work for them. Yes enlisting for 6 years is a major one because it shows an intent to stick around fo a while. Enlisting for 4 is kinda like telling them that all you want is a place to hang out and drink beer for a few years. Those that work at it and score well on their 5 level tests will go "below the zone" for E-4 (make it 6 months early).
All it amounts to is that the rank is there if you want to work for it, but it will not be there if all you do is goof off.
Stay home and study instead of running down to the t!tty bar every night.

I think you're talking about the air force. The 6 year thing is only if you want to come in as an e3. you'll normally make e3 in a year.

I think your referring to a military rank, if so yes, I made Petty officer second class in just four years that's E5, But i helped enlist two people before I went in, which if you talk to your recruiter they will tell you all about it, I got E3 right out of boot camp, made E2 for enlisting 2 people before I went in, and I was part of my schools color guard, which gave me E3 as soon as I finished boot camp, tested for E4 after 2 years, and was given a promotion to E5 by my captain one year later so yes But you have be willing to work for it. And trust me it's worth it the money is better and the amount of crap jobs you receive is less. Oh yea if you get a chance to do extra duties like flight deck, or SAR, Damage control do it they pay you more for your extra efforts. Good luck and thanks for your service to are country. O yea make sure that your m.o.s is something you can get a degree in or else your wasting your time when you come out you will need that education, What ever you do pick a job you want to do when you get out and the one you can get a degree in as well.

E-1 through E-4 is usually automatic. I think its like after 6 months your E-2, then another 12 for E-3 is the average. So yes, you probably will unless your just a completely terrible soldeir.
