It depends on the country. There really cant be a world popular because of different ancestry and such. Like you most likely wouldn't find a chinese person with the last name of Smith or Jones,

In the United States, the most popular are Smith, Johnson, Williams, Jones, and Brown.

Smith is the most popular then Jones and Johnson. Smith happens to be my maiden name. And on my moms side there are like 3 more lines of Smith but were not inbred. LOL
