Sure. A thank you would be fine. So would a slap in the face. The man's a dog if he's hitting on you and has a girlfriend.

The following response is not meant to imply that you are lacking in appeal. However, this fellow was probably drunk and jacking around. Don't take this seriously. Best thing to do, walk quietly away, without a response, even if it means walking quietly and directly up to the house bouncer and having the man removed from the pub or restaurant. Don't dignify this fellow with a response, you may start a conversation that neither of you want.
If he's deep in his cup, he might punch you out. Just walk away or remain silent until he gets the message and goes away. Sorry for your trouble.

He sounds like a playboy. I'm not IMPLYING so, but your description of him makes it seem so. Saying 'Thank you' might just push him on, to break hearts. Then again, he could just be paying you a compliment. For now, try ignoring him, and smile to his girlfriend, to show that you aren't a threat if she's noticed the boy looking at you. If he decides to break up with his current girlfriend for you, then he may have decided to move on, because he thinks you're a better soulmate. Perhaps he already has plans set out to break it to his girlfriend, and is preparing to ask out the next girl.

Hes handing you a compliment. Its not always a hit on but a simple compliment. In the back of his mind maybe if he didnt have a girlfriend he would think of dating you. I have guy friends who are married that tell me I am hot or sexy Blah blah blah..its a compliment and end of story.

He would be trying to achieve becoming a slimy rat - and suceeding quite well. Its hard not to be flattered but obviously this man has not got true feelings for his girlfriend and would probably do it again and again..."Thank you" would be quite appropriate but also would be "goodbye".
