Today's English Version reads without the antiquated behold and shows Jesus' transmission of the care of His mother to St.John, 'Then he said to the disciple,",She is your mother."From that time the disciple took her to live in his home'(Jn19,27).The apostles would and could not have made fun of John because it was upon the command of their Master, Jesus,to take care of His mother and ,as you say,may have been a little in awe of this special relationship.Remember that Mary is present with the apostles after the Ascension in the upper room awaiting the descent of the Holy Spirit(Act1,14).

What are you talking about? The Apostles all worked together for the same purpose, to make disciples of all men. They were always busy doing the work of the Lord, that is, spreading the good news of God's Kingdom. They spread the good news in all the then known world, had little time to be standing around.

The Bible says Jesus told John to behold his mother (Mary) never again does it mention any kind of relationship they had. Typical of Catholicism to take one verse a build a doctrine around it.

Probably not. As St. John was "the Disciple whom Jesus Loved." They may have been jealous of him (and his Brother James - the Sons of Thunder) because of what their mother Asked of Jesus ("grant that my sons may sit on your right and left when your kingdom comes")...
But I think John was honored by Christ Himself from the Cross (John was the one who did not run away) when He said:
"Mother, behold thy son....behold thy mother."
