There are too many reasons to believe that He DID!!

Reasons to believe in the Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:29-32 "Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? I die every day--I mean that, brothers--just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."

Was Jesus raised from the dead? This is one of the most important questions we can ask, because if He were not raised from the dead then we have no hope after this life and we might as well just "eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."

Josh McDowell called the resurrection either a fantastic hoax or a wonderful experience. Jesus predicted the resurrection before his death in Matthew 16:21:

"From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."

His purpose in life was to die for our hope. He was seized, accused, mocked, tortured and whipped. They ripped His flesh and they crucified Him. Why would He do this? Jesus was silent and no one spoke up on his behalf. He knew He had to die to carry sin upon Himself. He knew He would be resurrected in three days to crush the power of death so that we would have the hope of eternal life.

Matthew 28:1 "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men."

Matthew 28:5 "The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you.""

Matthew 28:8 "So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

Some people have a hard time believing this and have come up with alternate theories to explain the events that happened that day. Let's take a look at the theories that have been proposed.

Alternate Theory #1 - Jesus Did Not Really Die

The Muslims believe that Jesus did not really die on the cross, that he just passed out and was revived later in the tomb. There are several problems with this theory. Many people saw that he was really dead. Not just common people, but highly trained Roman soldiers were there to make sure that he was really dead. They had no interest in seeing Him worshiped, and in fact a Roman soldier pierced Him in the heart and blood and water came out. Pilot needed a certificate of death and four executioners had actually examined Him and declared Him dead. The fact of the matter is that He really was dead.

Alternate Theory #2 - The Disciples Stole the Body

The disciples had no thought of the resurrection. They were devastated when He died and the last thing that was on their minds was for Him to be resurrected. They were hiding from the Romans and the religious leaders, scared to death of being seen. They were not about to face the Roman guards. The tomb was guarded by Roman soldiers and there was a huge stone in front of the tomb with a Roman seal. Everyone knew that if they broke the seal they faced death by the Roman army. The disciples were not able to do this and in fact the stone was not moved by any man, yet it was removed!

Alternate Theory #3 - They All Went to the Wrong Tomb

Imagine the disciples all going to the wrong tomb. They go about telling everyone that Jesus has risen from the dead, totally humiliating the religious leaders and Roman soldiers while all the while guarding the tomb were Jesus lie. Everyone knew that it was the tomb with the big stone in front of it and the Roman soldiers guarding it. They were at the right tomb.

Alternate Theory #4 - Mass Hallucination

Did the disciples, the Romans and the religious leaders all suffer some sort of mass hallucination? Not likely. Hallucinations are not a group experience. It is an individual experience. It is like saying, "Did you enjoy my dream last night." Hallucinations come to people who expect the experience. The disciples were not expecting Jesus to be resurrected and neither were the religious leaders or Roman soldiers.

The Resurrection Theory - Maybe He is Who He Said He Is

Just maybe He is who He said He is. The Old Testament, the New Testament, and even secular history claims that He died, He was buried and He rose from the dead. Now, let's look for some evidence for the resurrection.

The Evidence from Eyewitnesses

When you have eyewitnesses in a trial the lawyer is psyched because by the testimony of two or three the truth can be established. Well, if you could have all of the people who saw Jesus after He was resurrected come into a court room and give testimony for just 15 minutes each they would be giving testimony from noon on Sunday until about 8:00 on Friday night. He appeared to over 500 people before he ascended into heaven 40 days after His resurrection. He appeared to doubters (Thomas, James and Paul), small groups, large groups, during the day, and during the night.

The Evidence from the Disciples

The turnaround in the behavior of the disciples is strong evidence for belief in the resurrection. Before Christ's resurrection the disciples were cowardly. Peter denied Christ three times and the rest of them hid when He was taken. After the resurrection they preached without fear. They stood in public places and preached Christ resurrected and it did not matter to them if they were beaten, stoned, jailed or crucified. They would not stop preaching Christ resurrected even to the point of death. All but one of the disciples died for their faith. There is no other explanation for the change in their behavior but the resurrection of Jesus.

The tomb is empty, Jesus is risen, Jesus kicked the back out of that tomb and made it a bridge to eternal life.

What does this mean to you and me?

1 Corinthians 15:17 "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."

Christ has risen and your faith is not futile. It has great value in this life and the next. Some people see serving God and church as one option among several, one not better than others. They put serving God on the level of cutting the lawn on Sunday morning. Faith in the resurrection should be the foundation of our lives. It is all important, a solid base, essential for this life and the next. We will not regret building on Christ. When difficulties came He is a solid, firm foundation. Stand strong, our faith is not futile. If it were not true, then there are other things we could be doing with our lives, but it is true and it is awesome what God can do in our lives.

You are no longer in your sins, your sins are forgiven. Only God can make a way to walk with Him. Some of us carry a backpack of guilt, but Jesus takes our burden and he removes our sins as far away as the east is from the west. Whatever you have done, whatever your circumstances are, whoever you have hurt, God wants to give you a fresh start today. He does not hold your past against you. He says " Come to me and I will give you a new life." One full of peace and wholeness. Because of the resurrection, He can destroy the power of sin, no matter what it is. Our sins are forgiven.

Because of the resurrection, the power of death is broken in our lives. One second after we take our last breath we will know that this is not a fairy tale. Our future is secure in Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:53 "For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory.", "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

Wholeheartily serve God and give yourself fully to the work of the Lord. Stand firm, persist in your faith, because it is based in truth. We are talking about a relationship with a living God, not a religion. Live to serve Him and give priority to seeking Him. The resurrection changes everything. You will never regret giving yourself fully to God. When you see Him, you will wonder how you could have served Him more. Eleven of the twelve disciples died for their faith and gave everything for the Lord. They believed in the reality of the resurrection. He is risen! Alleluia!

John 11:25 "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

The fact is, if Christ didn't rise from the dead, its inexplicable how Christianity got started because it is all based on the claim that He did; AND the claims were circulated practically right after the events happened;AND under the circumstances that the Jews recognized the possibility of this rumor starting and did everything within their power to prevent the body from being stole. Their was a Roman guard protecting the grave under penalty of death. Besides, the disciples were cowards when Jesus was arrested. Where did they suddenly get the courage to propagate a lie so that they could be persecuted and homeless for most of their remaining lives and eventually killed for it? Where was the profit. Surely charlatans have used religion to their advantage, but what advantage did these founders gain from spreading the gospel unless it was the truth?

Simply because they don't believe in Jesus and in His Ressurection. They even elaborated a theory asserting He was taken by his disciples from sepulture while the guards were sleeping, or the same disciples paid the guards to give them the body of the Christ. Behind this theory are the high priests of Israel, who were interested to maintain among the Jews the idea Christ was an impostor and not at all the Messia promised by Almighty God through prophets. They also wanted to preserve their power of influence in masses, who already began to believe in the teachings of Christ and join to His Church. A fact that for the high priests was synonimous with the failure of their teachings.

I'm in no way trying to be argumentative, let me prove to you that Jesus DID rise from the dead. (All verses are from the Ryrie Study Bible): (1) Matthew 27:63"....After three days I am to rise again." (2) Mark 16:6 "...."Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen;...." (3) Acts 26:23"....resurrection from the dead...." Thank you for allowing me to prove my point that he did.

Even the Jews admit his body was not in the grave. They payed the soldiers guarding him to say that the disciples came and stole the body while they were sleeping. Most don't believe because they don't want to believe or they read/watched the Davinche code and thought it was accurate.

He did....and he was seen by more than 500 people, including all the disciples.

Eyewitness accounts are hard to refute.
Of course, there are those who have already decided not to believe....not much you can do for them.
