I think that depends on the person. Some people are able to keep their God close to their heart without the support and community of others, and others need the community of others with similar beliefs.
It's not too different from people who blog on 360 or MySpace or any of the other blogging forums. You can write your thoughts, stories, poems down and store them on your computer and read them every once in a while. Some people can do that and become very prolific writers, and others give up on writing after a while. Some choose to share their writing with others by blogging or having their work published in books or magazines, and people comment on their writing. There are little on line communities of writers who read each others work, and give encouragement. Often these communities go beyond the actual blog and members of these communities offer support and friendship in times of trouble, and rejoice in times of celebration. Do you have to share your writing? No, but many find that they enjoy doing so.
Is one way better than the other? I don't think so. It is an individual choice.

I think both are necessary for the greater good. Example: You can personally fight the cause of the hunger by donating food/money, but when the community rallies around the cause and multiple people donate food/money the outcome is greater.
Prayer/religion is the same way....from a personal viewpoint you can advance far by praying/meditating on your own. But, when coupled with the others in the community that hold similar beliefs, communal rewards are easier obtained.

It's not that it has to be social, it's more like it shouldn't be social. Religion should be a personal thing and kept to ones self, but people do not have this type of discipline.

For me personally it's great to be around others with similar beliefs. Fellowship within the Church. A good Church also provides many different fun activities for all ages and families. It's not just about the personal beliefs, we share part of our lives together.
I tend to share my belief with non-members, non-believers, when they ask.

by definition, religion is something each person uses to relax from all bad things happening, but in islam for example,it is useful to spread the message to people, forcing believers to make the religion social.it is all a personal matter after all...

I miss my Church so very much.I am disabled.but the spirit of God is with me. as much as when I went to church. it is just very nice to fellowship with like minded people.God has been with people thru out the ages. thru the Spirit, the Spirit is there for everyone no matter the religion or lack of religion.

It goes against the teaches of Jesus for it to be social. Even praying over your food in public is against jesus. christians are supose to be private about their faith. ANything else is against the bible.
