The simple answer is that tinnitus could indicate damage to the ear (delicate hairs or the auditory nerve) and it is difficult to repair. The only 'reversible' tinnitus is drug induced, or the result of treatable infections and jaw/spinal misalignment.
Try reflexology, or ginkgo biloba - but don't forget to check that you are not on any meds that interact ginkgo (e.g. warfarin, aspirin, some anti-depressants) or have a condition like asthma which is contra-indicated.
There are self help groups around but I agree, it is a miserable condition to suffer from.

You might as well ask why synthetic eyes have not been developed. The technical and medical community are trying. Treatment alone is difficult. It depends upon what is causing the tinnitus. I suggest that you offer patience, money for research, and possibly yourself as a test subject. I don't want to be a test subject. I don't have money to aid research. I do have patience.
As a last resort, you could go to school and become a researcher. Possibly you could find a cure. That is a worthy goal, vocation, and past-time.

tinnitus is recognised as a medical ailment. I suppose it gains the same kind of recognision as m.e. used to. I know there is a sufferers association or such like. If you suffer u may want to contact them or u may hear (no pun intended) from them here.
Usually they are only too pleased to offer advice.
I have sensitive hearing so i really sympathise.
u are not alone.
all the best.

for some people Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapy will help.
Go to www.mlduk.org.uk for properly trained therapists in the UK.
www.vodderschool.com for the States.
It's a horrid problem but, as I say, for some lucky people MLD will work.

I suffer from a mild case of it (thank god it's mild!) Drives me nuts. Not enough people are aware of the illness and until they get the proper funding, I fear that there won't be a cure.

While it definitely impacts the lives of its victims, tinnutis is not
life threatening. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't have the impact of AIDS, cancer, heart disease, etc.
