I didn't bother including non-Christians in my Q only because it is obvious what their opinion would be.
It is unbelievable to me that a man of God would try to mislead people in such a way...for example, his website http://www.godhatesfags.com/
God doesn't hate anyone does He? or did I miss something in the bible? I was always under the impression that God hates SIN, not the people who commit it (us)
Maybe its just Fred Phelps who hates fags?
We should pray for his eyes to be opened...how can you have God in your heart and turn around to preach hatred?
Don't get me wrong either...I am a Baptist and I believe we shouldn't condone sin (which homosexuality is clearly defined as) but we should love and welcome sinners into our fold because they are the ones who need church/fellowship/God the most!
Being tolerant of sinners isn't the same as condoning their sin, is it? I think I am going to send him a letter...maybe i'll include these answers too Respectfully yours, K

Zero Cool, I posted a nice story on my first blog entry about how one town handled Phelps funeral protest of a soldier... we can dispute/disagree with hatemongers without having to stoop to their level

Well, I'm not a Christian but I can offer a perspective of what mainstream Chrsitianity regards this man as: A nutcase.
We atheists know better than to hold him up as a poster child of Chritianity as well. Having looked into the man's personal history, I'm pretty convinced that the man is a sociopathic sadist with an unhealthy charisma. I greatly doubt he believes half the garbage he preaches, and his obsession with homosexuality suggests to me that he might be a closet homosexual himself.
He thrives on attention, loving the controversy and anger that gets stirred up by his stunts. He genuinely enjoys the hurt he causes people and revels in the anger directed towards him...doubtless chalking it up to "persecution of the righteous". The more of a stir he causes, the more he likes it.
I refer to a recent effort by Phelps and crew to picket the funeral of one of the children who died in the bus accident recently. Phelps and co. showed up at the agreed-upon location and were met by a group of counter-demonstrators: Demonstrators who didn't so much as mention Phelps' name or cause, but offered support and help for the friends and family of the victim. In addition, a pair of large buses "accidentally" ran out of gas positioned right between Phelps and the funeral, blocking them from the news crews as well as the family of the girl.
And get this: The anti-Phelps demonstration was organized by an atheist group. I refer you to this blog for more details: http://atheists.meetup.com/188/boards/view/viewthread?thread=2438534&pager.offset=20#6071590

Answer: Fred Phelps is a perfect example of everything a Christian is NOT supposed to be. He forgets that Jesus preached to love people -- and what Mr. Phelps is preaching is diametrically opposite to the teachings of Jesus

Well, no Christian supports Mr Phelps-that is for sure.
But now about fags- Romans 1:24ff tells us that after God gives up on an individual (for total rejection of God), that many become homosexual. I do not think that God looks favorably upon homosexuals base on that scripture.
Fred Phelps is obviously a lunatic-no question. And, no Christian organization will line up with him.
But, God calls homosexuals fools, liars, sexually impure, shameful, unnatural, indecent, perverted, depraved, wicked and evil. I read that to mean that God hates them. Why else would He abandon them to this lifestyle (v. 24)?

This is the guy that says God hates fags, right.
He really should read the part of the Bible that says "Let he who is without sin , cast the first stone" .
We also have to remember that this is america, and we need to let each one live their on lifes.

Oooooooooh that HORRIBLE man.... he and his cult are unspeakably evil. They protest at funerals. At funerals!
*edit*
Oh, yes yes! I've read all about the bikers who run peaceful counter-protests so that Phelps and his disgusting hoard cannot approach close enough to create a significant disturbance. I'm so proud of those people who stand up to his kind of barbarism.
Thank you for the link!

This nut case teaches love, acceptance & tolerance, by preaching hate and intolerance! It is truely amazing how his plan has backfired and worked against him! Gotta love Fred, he's doing God's work, only backwards!

I think he is the picture of a good christian. Everything he spouts in his hate filled, brain damaged tirades, is biblical. He is a wacko, a moron, and a fool, but a honest christian. Read the bible people, he is doing what he is supose to.
