As a prior resident of Oneonta, New York, it was forbidden to have air guns, cap guns, or any guns excluding the use of police weaponry.
My brother was ticketed while shooting an annoying squirrl (which he missed), but he happened to do it as a police officer drove by.
So to answer your questiomn, it is illegal by the State of New York to hold any harmful weapon of any kind in ones pocession.
So if you have one, don't tell anybody. Or throw it away.
You can et a big ticket like my brother Jeffery the 2nd.

Good Night!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In New York state the DEC considers a 10 gauge goose gun the same as a Marksman 2004.

New York State Codes, Rules and Regulations, Title Six - Environmental Conservation Sec. 180.3 Definition of firearms: (a) The word firearm shall mean any gun or other instrument which by force of gunpowder, or other explosive, or which by the force of a spring, air or other gas, expels a missle or projectile capable of killing, wounding or otherwise inflicting physical damage upon fish, wildlife or other animal.
Basically air guns are firearms in NY. So you just might as well buy a real gun, If you are of age.
