People equate being humble with being in poverty, I don't think that's true. Jesus was humble but i'm sure he didn't have self esteem issues. His diciples had money.what do you all think?

No, although they are 2 different things, they are not opposite.

I believe that a person is able to have both at the same time. Just because you have self-esteem, that does not mean that you are unable to be humble to yourself or others. you can be proud of yourself and know that you have confidence and reassurance in the way that you want your life to be and also respect yourself & others with humbleness at the same time. All that this is showing you & others is that you are not a self-centered person. And you are not only showing yourself & others that you are respectful, confident, & humble, in every-way it is also showing God, as well.
God Bless

Of course you can have self-esteem and be humble! The two are not mutually exclusive. Instead...

Self esteem simply means that you love yourself, warts and all! That you acknowledge the divine life force within you and honor that.

Humility is the understanding that although you recognize the divine life force within you, you ALSO recognize the same force within others. In short, you humble yourself to that divinity and recognize its gift in another life. But without self esteem, which is a love of self and the recognition of your divine life, you cannot be humble. This is amply demonstrated in the old homely,

"I could not love thee have as much if I did not love myself more."

I have a great deal of confidence...but I have this confidence in Christ and what He has help me to become. My self esteem is healthy because I don't view things as my worth but His. I think being humble is knowing where all this comes from and not losing sight of that.

Yes, I have learned that self esteem is very different than being humble. I am hoping I can explain this to my son, and keep his self image high. Being humble, I still have to figure out completely, but being hurtful to your self IS NOT HUMBLE.

If you truly know your true self, your level of self-esteem will be right on target and you will be humble because you understand. God did not create poverty and humbleness is not contingent on poverty.

I think if you know your true identity in Christ Jesus then that will give you self esteem beyond what anyone can tell you and you can have humility too , thinking about others and God and putting themselves before yourself

Being humble simply means we don't say I we say God.
