We have a 4 year old weiner dog. He is somewhat potty trained i guess. He will not bark at the door when he wants to go out. If we dont see him we are out of luck. We had him checked for an infection. We found he had crystals in his urine. He is now on a diet that is supposed to help. He went out at least a dozen times yesterday and a few minutes before his last event on the carpet.
Any help or suggestions would be great. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

If this is a new thing, he might be just showing you that he is upset with you. You might have changed something. Added a new pet or taken away something he was attached to.

If not, you might try to crate train him. Most dogs will not mess in "their" areas. I am sure if he hasn't been using a crate up to this point, he won't really like it, but it will help you out a lot.

How long has it been since he was at the vet? He may have a urinary tract infection, prostrate problems or diabetes. All have symptoms of frequent urination or the sudden need to go. Did the doctor say what type of crystals? Different problems can have crystal formation as a symptom.

Is he neutered? That may help.

My dogs never bark when they need to go out. They just stare at me like they think I can read their minds.

I have dachshunds too - aka "weiner dogs"
I'll just be honest with you, these dogs are adorable but they can be stubborn as heck. Sometimes they do this for attention or just because they dont want to go outside at the time. If yours is male try getting him neutered. That helped alot with my male weiner dog. They are marking their territory if they are not neutered. Hormones cause them to do it.
Ihave to say, other than the potty problems they are awesome pets. Very loving, smart and sweet.

Bring him back to the vet, He may have an infection or be in pain. It sounds as if he is potty trained so I don't think he is intentionally going in the house. I am sure it is because he is in pain or cannot control himself.

try setting up a bell tied to the door that he uses. Everytime you take him out try getting him to hit the bell. Hopefully he will pick up on it to hit the bells when he needs to go out. does he go in the same spot on the carpet every time. You may want to put a puppy pad in that spot.
