Windows XP has a free "compressor," zip file program already installed. Select the files, say pictures, then right click, choose Send To. The first item will show a folder with a zipper on it, saying Compressed (Zipped)Folder. Say it's pictures under My Pictures, It will automatically zip and name the folder. Look at the bottom of the file of pictures, you will see it. To make it easy to attach, drag and drop it on your Desktop. Best of luck.

when it is open in the folder or where ever it is, right click it>properties>general (tab)>advanced>compress contents>ok>ok> and it will compress it.
don't be surprised if it goes slow
however it doesn't do much on my computer
