Because most people wouldn't recognize Him.
Jesus Christ was 5'1" tall, pock-marked from his childhood disease and had a slight limp. This is from the various references made of His looks in the New Testament.
The popular image of Jesus Christ is from the Shroud of Turin which was actually of a Knight Templar, ages after Christ.
So most Christians wouldn't actually recognize Jesus Christ.
If it were at my door, however, I would welcome the Master in; because I'm better equipped to recognize Him and adore Him for what He really was.
