It is because most people operate with in that 5 mile radius 75% of the time. The 10 mile figure would carry a different percentage.

That will make it even worse.

First, you'll move to a new area, and be exposed to another 75% of accidents with a different set of neighbors. Then, when you are driving to work, or visiting friends in the old neighborhood, you'll be passing thru the area with the original 75% accidents.

You will be experiencing twice the accident rate as before.

(Unless you move out into the country. Then you have to worry about slow-moving farm equipment.)

If you really want to cut your accident rate, limit your driving to 2.5 miles in any direction. That will reduce your odds to 37.5%.

Err.. because you'll still be living at home, wherever you move to. 75% of accidents happen within 5 miles of where you live.

No, no, that won't work. You can't move as then you would still be within five miles of your new home. To be safe, leave your home where it is and stay with friends or at hotel ten miles away from home.

I did that and became part of the 25% group. My problem became I had 75% of the accidents of the 25% group.
