Why is it you never see a tattoo on a "real lady"?
Can you imagine, for instance, the First Lady with a tattoo?

I don't think a tattoo makes all people trashy, just some. Because of the way they keep the rest of their body, hair, appearance, etc. I wouldn't think a man with a military tattoo on his arm is trashy, or even a little clover on a woman's ankle.

It's when they look homemade, or gotten because it was the latest fad and have no meaning. I don't have one, but I'd like to get one, and it will have a lot of meaning for me. But it will be in a place where nobody could see it unless I wanted to show them.

And as a woman, I hate going into a professional office and women with tattoos on their backs are showing them off in halter tops. Not appropriate for the workplace at all.

I've been tattooed for about 30 years and I'm always looked at as trashy.....and I'm a guy......tattoos on the right woman is very sexy to me. You will be surprised to find that some classy women have tattoos hidden, cuz it makes them feel trashy at times. One of the reasons I stopped getting tattooed is because it seems to be a fad now. Back in the day tattoos were few and far between, and it separated the men from the boys, tough guys from the sissy's. People are so judgmental, just look at some of the answers here. People have a way of showing their ignorance by simply stating that they think someone is a loser by having a tattoo, and by the color of someone's skin or the clothing they wear. I have never heard of someone with a tattoo say that someone without a tattoo is a loser.

Our upbringing provides a source of values that are imprinted upon us at a very young age. If the culture of a family promotes self expression through such acts as tattooing or piercing, children raised in this family culture will be imprinted with the message that this is OK, and will perhaps themselves want to be tattooed or pierced. On the other hand, if a family shows revulsion at this type of behavior, the children raised by this family will be less likely to exhibit tattoos or piercing. The tendency to conform has a very strong influence on behavior.
In recent generations, the influence of family values has been moderated by external forces, including media and the wide exposure to values that are not innate to the family.
In a sense, we have moved from a culture where "you are what you eat" to a culture where "you are what you see."

what does real lady mean? i have a tattoo that is visible and no one has ever treated me like trash. it's a simple picture of a rose. it doesn't say anything about my personality other than that i may be creative an am certainly open minded. i also work. it doesn't affect my ability to do my job and i often get compliments. to say that a person (man/woman) with a tattoo/s is trashy or low class is upsetting. would you judge someone with a burn or a wound the same way? your doctor, client, butcher, bus driver or even your boss could have a tattoo that may not been seen, would that make them trashy and of low class? many of our servicemen and women get/have them (like a right of passage) are they low class and trashy people fighting for our country? i think people are spending too much time worrying about things that don't affect their lives in any way shape or form and that are simply none of their business. think about it this way, if someone you love like your lover, son, daughter, brother, sister friend e.i got one, would that put them beneath you? i think not. you'd love them no matter what. and as far as the first lady, how would you know if she doesn't have one and why would it be anyone's business if she did? maybe her daughters do. people need to get over themselves. a "real lady" would have a life with one or without one.

Personally not a big fan of tattoo's.
Why?
1) If you are a Christian then tattoo's are considered witchcraft (Leviticus 19:28) for the big one:
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

(1 Kings 18) gives the witchcraft roots, you really have to read the whole passage (or book really) to see the connection

2) I think it's an image thing... they are permanent and tarnish clean skin.

3) A little like smoking it's something that tends to be done by people either in the lower class or in subcultures. For example if you go to jail lots of people have a lot of tattoo's... alternatively go to a gathering of goths and you will see a lot. On the other hand picture your average middle-class family... most mums and dads aren't plastered in tattoo's.

4) I think it applies to both men and women (not just women)... maybe just me though?

5) If it is only women then maybe it's a thing about clean skin? I know I find skin with no marks on it (including natural features) really attractive when I'm checking out models.

I have 3 tattoos on my back . i am a mother. i have these tattoos as a reminder to where i was in my life, my daughter, and my husband. I think people especially women have the right to look and feel like a lady but to define a lady. what if you found out that Barbara Bush, Hilary Clinton, or Laura Bush have a tattoo on their body would you see them as trailor park trash or street walkers or not ladylike anymore

it depends on the tatoo...some are very cute. I personally don't consider women low class and trashy if they have a tatoo. I just have problems with tatoos that are strategically placed leading to someones butt and then wearing a short top to expose the tatoo.

I think it's because it used to be a certain type of person got a tattoo and the image has not worn off.

actually i can see the first lady with a tattoo... and no it's not trashy.. many people get tattood because they want to put meaningful things on them.. i know a girl that has her brother's initial on her because he died a few years ago.. and i respect that by all means. now is she trashy because she has a tattoo?? it's just a body art.. now would i do it? no i hate needles.. but others do it and it's beyond our control..this post won't make anyone stop tattooing himself.

it's just like getting your boobs, lips, legs etc.. done.. many ladies get that done.. now does that make them trashy?? and if that's trashy i suppose nose rings, belly rings, and ear rings are too right??? OOH AND i just saw a picture of queen elizabeth wearing them! does'nt that make her trashy?? well we all have our opinions

Someday I'll bet the First Lady will have a tattoo. I have a tattoo but it isn't readily visible and people are surprised when they hear I have one. "I wouldn't expect "you" to have a tattoo..." I don't think people really "think" about getting a tattoo these days, where they get it or what they get. I don't regret mine, I put a lot of thought into it and purposely put it where it wouldn't become an "issue" or generate any generalized opinions.
