Better get a pro to tell you. I wouldn't recommend it at that age.

A VERY bad combination is an inexperienced with an inexperienced rider. Now, I'm not saying your horse is inexperienced overall, but he sure is in jumping. 20 is not too old for a horse to jump, but it's definitely going to be hard to teach him. PLUS, you need to learn how to jump on an experienced jumper. I suggest finding a trainer who will teach you how to jump. Then you can come back and teach your horse (please note that this might take a few years). I've been riding for 15 years and I'm still learning new things everyday.

Horses are Natural Jumpers. Altho many horses do not like to do it. (they had to be able to jump over bushes, fences, and other obstacles to be able to get away from prey.)
If the horses is 20 then you need to start with being able to walk trot and canter over ground poles. then take one and put it up 6 inches and do the same thing.. then another 6 inches......

Please DO NOT TRY THIS WITH OUT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!!!!!!

I have seen many GREAT horses and people get hurt because of stupid mistakes!

i think the horse is too old to start jumping. it wouldnt be fair to ask an old horse to jump, especially racehorses, they have a hard life at the track, with a lot of wear and tear on their legs at a very young age.

20 years old is to old to be teaching the horse to jump now.
Also many of the old racers have sustained injuries durring their racing days that make them unsuitable for jumping.
Many have leg and joint problems and should not be jumped. It can be one of the reasons they have been retired from racing.
