No, not at all-that is fantasy. The Romans persecuted the Christians because the Jews continually complained about them to the Roman authorities. It was a constant thorn in the side of the Roman leaders.
Where did you hear such foolishness that Romulus was born of a virgin, and the Greeks had virgin births for pregnant daughters? Sounds like another "DaVinci Code" -like fantasy.

It is easier than that. Earlier Christians told the Romans that their gods were false and the Romans being the big kids on the block just did not like it be told "Nanna nanna nannaaaaaaa".
Besides these births were claimed ,and I said "claimed", to have happen in Rome or Greece and the Old Testament states that the "Saviour" or "Messiah" would come from the family and land of David.
As for the Gospels being written, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John had already started writing their books on Christ. The other main portion of the New Testament is written by Paul as letters that stand as witness to his ministry of Christ and spreading the "Good News of Christ".

There were a number of things involved. Here are two:
The Christians (in their many sects at the time) refused to do the Roman equivalent of saluting the flag. It was required of al citizens of the Empire that they throw a pinch of incense onto burning coals in front of statues of past Emperors. There was no profession of faith involved, and the people could worship in any temple or at any altar they chose, to any (or all) deities that they favored. It was a public religion, and no restrictions were placed on worship of other deities.
This the Christians refused to do. Their refusal was tantamount to saying that they were not loyal to the empire.
Second, we must remember that there was conflict between different sects of Christianity at the time - there were actual physical fights between Bishops of different sects of Christianity in the streets of Rome, and confiscation of lands and Churches, and this went back and forth for a quite a while, until Constantine summoned all the Bishops together and sat them down and told them to come up with ONE official sect, in order to stop the sectarian warfare that was going on. This kind of behavior was also a problem for the smooth running of the Empire.
Constantine forced an end to the sectarian fighting around 325, I think.
There were other reasons, and there is good information out there in Cyberspace about it, if you want to look for it.

Basically Rome's religion was set up to pacify people and make them more loyal to the empire. Also, the Romans held gladiator games to give people a way to distract them from how bad thing really were if you were poor. So when a religion comes along that tells people they can be free and focuses more on the poor than just being a member of the empire, the people in power saw it as a threat to their power. They began to round up all the Christians they could find and put them in the gladiator games to both distract the people and discourage them from becoming Christians.

They "upset" the Romans by their refusal to acknowledge Caesar as Lord. Many early Christians were thrown to the lions or crucified because they would only say that Jesus was Lord and not Caesar. When Rome burned Nero used the Christians as scapegoats and started rumors that they had started the fire.

They were going door to door teaching the words of an itinerant preacher, who had no formal education, telling everyone that the traditions, rituals, and beliefs they had followed for centuries was no longer valid. They are using scriptural writings that was clearly made up only to support their beliefs. How would you react if someone came to your door for that reason?
