I've had lots of males, many of them intact, and never had problems with them peeing on the tree. Just watch him the first little while and see how much interest he shows. You can easily tell him no when you're home, but if you don't quite trust him, maybe you could put up a baby gate to keep him out of the room when no one's there.

I'm going through the same thing right now...We put the tree up last night and I'm worried sick about my 2 year old male marking it. All he's done so far is sniffed it, but he hasn't attemted to pee on it yet. Every time he goes near it, we tell him "NO"! We put all non-breakable / washable ornaments on the bottom of the tree just in case.

Since yours is nuetered, he shouldn't be into 'Marking his territory" (Mine is not nuetered yet - Appointment next Thursday!).

There is a "Pet-Away" spray you can buy at the pet store that you could spray on the bottom of the tree, the only thing is, it smells absolutely horrible!

assuming your dog is well housetrained and somewhat obedient it shouldnt be a problem..

say NO if he gets to the point where his posture becomes like he is going to mark it..
put a blanket he uses at the base of the tree - therefore alreading giving the tree his scent..
