An airline pilot in command holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. The ATP certificate is the highest certificate available and is above a commercial certificate. An ATP certificate pilot can do everything a commercially rated pilot can do plus fly for a scheduled airline. A commercially rated pilot can not act as pilot in command of a scheduled airliner, but they can act as second in command.

A commercial certificate is required for any activity that produces an income such as flight instructing, giving rides, flying skydivers, corporate pilot, crop dusting, fire fighting etc.

In general, airline captainshave the potential to make more money than most commercially rated pilots, but I do know of some corporate pilots making much more than airline pilots. Even though these pilots only need to have a commercial certificate, most have an ATP. An ATP certificated communter captain may only be making $30-$40K a year, and many commercially rated pilots make $80K+

Commercial Pilot is a more general term. I have a Commercial Pilot's license but I am not an Airline Pilot.

With a Commercial Pilot's license you can do any of the following:
-fly for the major airlines
-corporate jets
-regional jets
-flight instructor
-banner towing
-cropdusting
-skydiving
-cargo
-charters
-and so on.
........granted each of these jobs might require extra training or training for a particular aircraft.

Usually Commercial Pilot's fly these lesser known jobs to build up experience. Then once they get the required experience or (hours) then they can apply to an airline. And Airline Pilots are at the top of the payscale.

Airline pilots ARE commercial pilots. The term Airline Pilot simply refers to the job being done with a Commercial Pilot's License (Or an ATP for PICs)

As a flight attendant, I surely have worked with somewhat some woman captains and well-known officers. As somebody else mentioned, this is a ability that was once especially gained in the militia - consequently there have been fewer women available on commercial liners. i think the numbers will start to upward push heavily over the subsequent couple of an prolonged time. Are you the right age to remember whilst all bus drivers have been male? Now, it style of feels the ladies outnumber the adult men. My own opinion is that ladies folk (many times talking) are extra meticulous and intuitive than maximum adult men, and make staggering pilots.
