Why do certain people have the jekyll and hyde personality?

Is it normal to be nice one minute and nasty the next? Does this mean that if a person changes personality often, they may have a mental problem?

It is worth remebering that people never do things without a reason. The most common reason for the behaviour you describe is stress, that is, people cannot cope with something, become pre-occupied about it and it takes a huge effort for them to put it to one side and talk with someone else. Which is why they become irritable and sometimes downright rude. Mental Illness is, thankfully, extremely rare and is an organic malfunction of the brains communication system. Most people labelled as Mentally Ill by society rather than medics are either suffering a reactive depression caused by life events that although very serious is on the scale of things recoverable from for most people, or, to be blunt just eccentric. Try talking to this person and find out if there is something really bugging them, you may discover there is a cause, people find it very hard to talk, particularly when that is the best thing to do. It might be a blood sugar imbalance (hypoglycemia). If a person gets angry, nasty, etc. especially if they have not eaten, or just before meals, this is an indicator of low blood sugar.

definately....there are people like this, though rarer than understood...who have two distinct personalities, and it can cause some serious problems for them, and the ones' who love them...and yes, it is a mental problem....or something that has to be prayed away...

It is called bipolar. Happy and hared working then depressed and tried the next.
