I'm invited to a co-workers wedding in a couple of weeks. I will be attending the reception with my boyfriend. My question is: What is the appropriate gift? A gift from their registry or money? If money, how much? Any suggestions?

The safest bet is to choose a nice item from her registry. Since she is a co-worker, you can pick an inexpensive item. A saute pan or a dutch oven is always a safe bet too, you can do so much with them! Other easy options: an interesting vase, a gift card to a local resturant, a nice framed mirror, or a gift card to a local electronics store. For a co-worker, I would say about $50 is appropriate

What does the geographical location of the wedding matter when it comes to giving a gift for a wedding?

You know your friend.... give them something you think they will like or use. If they have a registry, they are already telling everyone what they want and can use... so pick something out from that.

A monetary gift is always appropriate at weddings the amount is hard to determine it depends a lot on your circumstances

Not a gift for her but you can go to fairplaymusicalgifts.com go to samples and download a free song for the parents of the bride, always a nice sentimental sappy gift appropriate at weddings
Also if you contact them you can buy a personalized CD of the song for about $15.00

Why don't you try something completely unique?

I was trying to decide what to give my roommate for his wedding present. After seeing this system called iMemoryBook I came up with a great idea. I convinced Derek and Wendy to write "He said...She said" stories about the way they met and the way they got engaged. Then using iMemoryBook's invitation system I sent invitations to all of his family and friends, in Utah, and all of her family and friends, in California. Then I watched the book grow online. I was amazed at how smoothly this book grew with the iMemoryBook system. Over 70 people got online, viewed and contributed to the book. The final book had over 200 photos, 75 entries(memories), and 100+ pages, iMemoryBook helped me create something I wouldn't have even imagined possible.

As it is a Southern wedding, you could try the following gifts...

His and Her's spitoons.

Soap (something Southerners don't normally use).

Picture books (avoid anything that would require them to read).

Money is ALWAYS appropriate, I don't care who ya are. Other appropriate gifts for a "southern" wedding include:
A case of Lone Star beer, tupperware, matching his and her ballcaps, gift certificate to the local tatoo parlor for "heart and name" bicep tats, sterling silver spitoon with names and date of wedding engraved, diapers (disposable of course), a lifetime membership to the NRA, "Precious Moments" family Bible, and of course the tradional canned ham.
