Pardon me if I go on forever. I will try not to. Drug abuse affects family in the following ways:
A sense of security is robbed from you. You worry constantly about the abuser and cringe every time your telephone rings. Literally. You want to spend time w/ that person, but everytime you do, you get soooo hurt, you vow to never put yourself in that situation again. But you do. Your heart literally aches and if you were not a worrier before, you will be now.
You miss the person that you love so much. But they're gone. They're just this horrible empty shell now. They lose touch with reality and comprehend nothing. They think your life, your kids and your family are just in the way of your addiction.
They steal from you. They lie to you. And they use you.
You know how bad an addict feels when he/she doesn't have his drug??
The family feels like that constantly. Miserable, hurt, sad, depressed and alone. It's not fair and I hope you are never on the receiving or contributing end.
And if you are, God bless your soul.

I am an ex heroin/crack addict of 20 years so I know what I'm talking about ok! It rips the heart out of most families and the damages s seldom ever repaired.
The family is usually the first to suffer when there is an addict in it because firstly money will start to go missing, then jewellery and other easily sold stuff and then when the addict can't find anything else to steal it usually comes down to emotional blackmail and violence such is the need for drugs. I've seen this so many times but luckily i always had a good job and always managed to "score" without resorting to that.

well, honestly i can tell you first hand it affects the family a lot - but it depends on the age of the children and also how much they see and know. personally - i grew up around my father who did drugs and my mother never hid anything from both me and my brother. i am now 21 years and he is 24 years. our father ended up passing away when i was 17. it is something that no one should ever have to go through.

growing up i never wanted to bring friends by the house and none of my friends understood why i was always fighting with my dad. i was never open about it to anyone, because i don't like pity. the best thing is to talk about the problem. if you are the other parent - don't hide things from your children - talk to them about it so they know whats going on. one thing i will always respect my mom for it for keeping both me and my brother involved in what was going on - she told us everything we wanted to know. honestly to this day i haven't touched a drug and i never will. i saw firsthand what it did to my father and i will never put that burden on anyone else.

good enough??? email me if you have any other questions!

mainly it depends on what drugs the addict is using.

usually the addict starts stealing to pay for the drugs. little things at first then it gets worse and worse the more the addiction grows.

if there is young children involed and a parent is taking the drugs that parent could lose access to the children.

It breaks there heart and terrifies most people of loosing them. I have experience of drug addicts in my family and it is not nice to see, there is nothing you can do to help until the person wants it. Drugs are for mugs !

First of all if your taking drugs and you have a family your children might not be healthy and you to won't be healthy. you might find out you will be divorced. and you might not be much of an idol to your kids.
