I have noticed for about a week that I have quite a bit of bright red blood in my stool, I do have to strain to start. Any ideas on what it could be? I am F 35 and healthy. Should I see a doctor?

The problem might be hemmorhoids if you're straining a lot. Increase your fiber intake or take a psyllium husk supplement, drink more water.

Other reason for bloody stools should be taken much more seiously and yes you she see a doctor to be sure it's nothing else.

Could be there is an obstruction or colon cancer but you shouldn't get yourself all worked up about either of these at this point.

It's probably not that serious, just go get checked out anyone.

Hope this helps

Straining can cause small internal fissures or tears or internal hemorrhoids. Increase your fiber and water intake. Try using Metamucil daily and drink alot of water. If this dosen't help within 1-2 weeks go see your doctor. The bleeding could be an underlying cause of something more serious. Good Luck!

Blood in your stool can be caused by any number of things. Some causes are benign, but some can be very serious. There is no way to diagnose the problem without seeing a doctor.

If it has been occuring for a week, I would consider talking to your doctor. It is good that it is bright red, because it means it is closer to the outside, and there probably isn't something messed up way up there. I would use the symtoms checker on WebMD and it should give you an idea of whether you need to go immediately to the doc.

If this keeps going on for a week I would see a doctor. Definitely increase your water/fiber intake.

Drugs that you're taking... perhaps... anti-coagulant... female sex hormones... such as estrogen... contraceptives... perhaps an underlying disease... only a doctor will actually be able to answer that question.
