I had a similar problem just a few months ago. Turned out to be a case of strep throat, I had to get penicillin. But I had a low grade fever, body aches, and my lymph nodes were swollen. You might have a mild case of strep throat possibly with only some or partial symptoms. Either way if youve had a sore throat for over a week you should go to the doctor.

Sometimes there is no easy and fast way to get over a cold. I know that Zicam does help to take away the cold faster. Also, garlic pills will help to build back up your immune system. If you have any cold and sinus pills, they may work. But it is best if you rest, like everyone said. The sore throat, however, could be strept throat, so keep an eye on it, and you may have to go get a test to see if you have it or not. Hope you are feeling better soon....

Sleep with a humidifier going. If you don't have one, you can keep a pot of water simmering on the stove. this will slowly release steam into the air which will help soothe your throat.
You can also take motrin or aspirin for the throat. Also, regular old Red Rose or Lipton hot tea has tannic accid in it, which helps soothe sore throats.
Lastly, popcicles cool a throat that feels like it's on fire.
You can also go to pharmacy or grocery store & buy a decongestant to help clear up the stuffiness.
