it has a really detrimental effect on the family. because its a member of your family its really hard to turn your back on them when they lie to you and abuse you (verbally) when they have their drug high's and lows. most of all it hurts knowing you cannot control it, if its a young family member its heartbreaking because you know that of all they could have acheived they have ended up ruining their life, especially when they are in denial.
you stay awake worrying about them, watch the health of your loved ones deteriorate, it rips a family apart because the parents will blame themselves and siblings .
cannabis abuse is considered a soft drug people dont realise the mental effects it has. it eventually goes on to cause paranoid schizophrenia, the person is never the same again.
when the person who is abusing drugs keeps losing their job resorts to lieing and stealing to feed the habit, stays away from home without a word to the family to let them know they are ok, abuses the family verbally when they hear things they dont like (about their drug abuse). they dont see this and there is nothign you can do about it until they face upto their problem and seek help. by this time its usually too late as the effects cannot be undone.
the family until this point cannot turn their back, especially the parents they have to suffer through all this.
so when people glorify drugs (especially cannabis) it infuriates me, they should spend a few hours in the shoes of family members of a drug user!

It causes so many problems especially for the parents, they have to see things being stolen to pay for the childs fix, and the abuse and suffering everyone goes through if they cannot get their fix, years and years of heartache, never goes away. As the abuser grows up parents still have the same worries, never leaves them, who are their children going to steal from or abuse next to get a fix. very unpleasant.

it causes worry and stress in the family and the person usually ends up alienating themself. my x did and he has been alienated by everyone he used to know because he refuses to stop and say he will make an effort to stay clean
