I don't know what they are called, but they are extremely uncomfortable for the dog. They now have inflatable ones. I believe they might sell them at specialty pet stores. Its like a baby inner tube/one side open alittle and fits around the neck. The pet I saw with one on actually fell asleep with it on and used it as a pillow resting its head on it...much more comfortable than those horrible plastic cones.

They're called Elizabethan collars and are used by vets after surgeries such as spaying, neutering, etc. They prevent an animal from licking and possibly infecting the surgery site, and also prevent them from pulling out the sutures.

Its designed for when there is an injury or surgery requiring stitches to ensure the dog will not try to pull them out. It stops the dog from licking or messing with the area so it can heal properly.

It is called an E-Collar (Elizabethian Collar) they have the hard plastic ones for larger dogs ($12.00 or so) and then the softer ones for smaller dogs (about $9.00) get them from your vet.

There are many solutions to this problem. The product you are looking for is called a "collar" or a "safe collar" there are many names for them. Manufacturers give them different names. I got mine from PetCo. You can also try a itching powder, which is highly reliable. This is the link for the collar:
