my friends mother bakes for office parties, open houses etc...word of mouth is one of the best way to advertise. Bake for ur friends and family as as a one time courtesy, or host a dinner party and let ur guest know ur open for business but stress the fact ur open for business........... a word of advise....i used to bake and decorate cakes......soon i found myself baking the cake as a favor....or "instead of a gift could u just bake the cake" or "as the bridesmaid it would be great if u also made the cake." It was a total nightmare. I was expected to show up and have the cake ready. too..........try dropping the top layer two hrs before the wedding........and ur in the wedding...........don't do favors...........period.......let people know ur for hire.......or i promise you will not have a business.....u'll have an open to do favors.......kitchen........good luck.........hey would u do me a favor.......I'd love to have a dinner party for 40 and i could help u advertise..........get the picture

In order for you to get quick recognition, it is best for you to get into a cooking school, if you can afford to do so. Although, I realize you already know how to cook well, as do I, (I did the same thing as you, but starting at 7 years old), but to be accepted in the cooking field, you will need some credential's behind you, meaning certificate's of graduation for cooking. There are a lot of rules dealing with personal cooking in kitchen's, as cleanliness, and regulation's set down by the governemnt. You can't just make a dish in your home and sell it, without having a stamp showing patron's that your food and the place you prepared it in, are safe from germs, and disease.
Try a cooking school, they will tell you everything. Good Luck!

You could start by becoming a personal Chef. (cooking for people in thier homes) you dont need a "shingle" or diploma. All you would need is an insurance policy and some clients. No health inspector, no kitchen of your own, and you could do it on your terms. Thats how I got started, and now Im the Resident Chef for a college.

Maybe you'd like to do like Leah in Enderby does.. She has a small roomy coffee place with some food not much in selection but it is the Friendliest Coffee place to sit down and enjoy coffee or some simple meal. It's a place to go when one isn't in a hurry! Leah even listens to peoples problems when she's not busy that's first thing in the morning. If you're a friendly person that just might be up your alley!

Check your local laws about running a cooking business out of your house, in some locals, you have to have a separate kitchen.
Ask around at local restaruants, with samples of your work, and see if they want to contract with you to make whatever.
There are websites, and a program on Food Network about selling food online, and starting your own food business. One lady got a contract with a national housewares company to sell her candy.

Most cooking jobs are full time and then some. If you want to do it part time consider catering privet dinners and small functions (most caterers won't take jobs for under 200 people) or teaching classes
