XP Pro is not a copy, recent updates, all system files upto date. Did have a problem with the system locking up turned out to be one DDR400 memstick which had a fault and have removed it from the M/board.
Regular virus scans have shown nothing, don't really want to format. there must be another way.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

it is a system crash, what happens is that the windows explorer whitch runs the desktop shuts down, and because the computers are set to restore themselves it goes back on but misses loads of things of it, so the only thing i could recommend is to try and update windows via windows update, or scan for viruses, if this doesnt do it,then install a asoftware from microsoft, called millisious software removal or somthin, u will find it on their website, if that doesnt do it either, you can just install windows again, it is always good to restore you computer every now and then but back up your files first i do it once every 6 months, i format and reinstall windows. it keep it healthy. anyway good luck maan , and if your windows aint genuine, then that is it you have to get a new one, i had a copied windows once and never worked properly the genuine is the best.

Sounds like a virus/trojan. Log into the account and press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, that should open Task Manager. Then go to File -> Run and type "msconfig" without quotes and press ok. Click the Startup tab and press Disable All. Then click okay and restart your computer. When your PC restarts a dialog box will popup after you login, check the box and press okay. There you go.

You got autohide on, just drag the mouse to where the start menu usually is then right click, properties, and uncheck auto-hide the task-bar, hit ok and you are set. The rest of the suggestions are really stupid except for the one who agrees with me, i mean come on haunted pc?

Do a Virus scan and a spyware scan, that should remedy the problem.

its because its probably set to only show up when you move your mouse towards the bottom of your screen. when you put your mouse over it and it shows up, double click on it and it should stay.
