I must assume that you are running a windows platform. If you click on the time in the lower right corner another window will show up. the pull down menu will allow you to select the time zone and will tell you the amount of time difference from where you have selected and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Here in New York, we are 5 hours behind GMT time. In other words, we have to add 5 hours to know what time it is GMT. i.e., 6 pm here, would be 11 PM GMT. Canada time zones mirror the time zones in the US. If you look at Toronto time and you in Vancouver and it is 5PM in Toronto, Vancouver would be three hours earlier.
A bit confusing, true, but read and think a bit and it become easy.

Its now 9am in my part of B.C.

There are 6 different time zones in Canada

Pacific
Mountain
Central
Eastern
Atlantic
NewFoundland

Its 9am Pacific Time and 1:30pm in Newfoundland
