that I did take my dog Lassie to the vet yesterday (reluctantly) and the vet said she was in extremely good health for her age (17yrs). She gave her antibiotics just in case it was an infection and not her age (weeing everywhere) but she didn't think so. Her heart was strong and lungs were fine, so there is still life in the old dog yet!! I was so relieved to come back home with her as were all the family. So thank you all for your kind words and support recently. We will be buying another doggy stocking this Xmas! xx

unitedbyt-I know. My husband has been shutting her in the bedroom with him at night and believe it or not, she probably comes down twice! So have been getting some sleep last few days. Thank you for asking.

Sorry that I didn't see your previous question - and it is so nice for people to respond and let others that have answered a question and let the respondents know what has happened.
I am glad that your dog is well. We had a cross collie that survived his 18th birthday. He had a heart problem from the age of about 12 and he had a mass on his lungs that the vet wanted to operate on but we wouldn't let him.
The same vet actually sold us antibiotics which didn't help him at all.
I would suspect that it is something to do with her age (you know, as you get older the more often you have to get up in the night to pee!). It still isn't a good reason to have the animal put down.
Enjoy your dog and I would love to buy the doggy stocking for her but can't.
We now have a 12 year old rescue Jack and she does have the odd mishap - but it would never make us consider having her put down just for that!
I do hope that it was just an infection and that the antibiotics will sort it out for her.

Didnt get your question but so pleased for you and your dog lassy that she is ok.
I have an aged alsation, who is retarded by brain damage, he is 16. Although he is doddery and now pretty deaf he still has a very waggy tail and loves to play with my young cat who adores him.
I now leave the back door open so he can go out when he needs to. He even asks to go straight out as soon as he has eaten. He has breakfast and tea as one meal a day does not help maintain his weight this also puts less pressure on his system less accidents. This has now become his habbit.
If i am going out i put paper down in the back hallway so i can lock the house up.
He knows if he wees or messes on the paper he will not get in trouble. He does not mess or wee anywere else but the back hall even if I forget to put the paper down.
You can teach on old dog new tricks it just takes a bit more patiance and a little longer to learn but they get there in the end. Hugs to you and lassy
