Some of it's teachings are highly questionable like for instance the Bible tells us to kill children, drink poison and to cut off our sex organs.

i dont see how.

and not just specifically for the reasons you mentioned. the bible is a horrible book. and im serious. a HORRIBLE book. the idea that people want to make it absolute law is extremely disturbing.

and can you beleive they say that its 100% morale?

amazing.

can the bible improve your life? i really dont see how....i cant even think of a BAD situation where, when the bible & its tales are introduced, the situation gets better.

(sigh)

What you cited have been twisted and changed.
Revelation 2; 22,23 refers to the children of Jezebel, whom Jezebel had taught wrong things. The word 'children' can often refer to followers, and not necessarily young children.
(Mark 16:15-18) And he said to them: “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 He that believes and is baptized will be saved, but he that does not believe will be condemned. 17 Furthermore, these signs will accompany those believing: By the use of my name they will expel demons, they will speak with tongues, 18 and with their hands they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly it will not hurt them at all. They will lay their hands upon sick persons, and these will become well.”

This is a promise by God that if the disciples do His will and preach, they will be protected. It should not be taken out of context.

(Matthew 19:12) For there are eunuchs that were born such from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs that were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs that have made themselves eunuchs on account of the kingdom of the heavens. Let him that can make room for it make room for it.”

The first part referes to those sad cases of baby boys being born deformed.
The second is the situation where men are deliberately maimed and reduced to eunuchs. Literally.
The third instance is where men choose NOT to marry and have sexual relation with women and remain chaste bachelors, giving them more time in which to preach. It is symbolic.
To prove it is symbolic, compare ;
(Leviticus 19:28) “‘And YOU must not make cuts in YOUR flesh for a deceased soul, and YOU must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves. I am Jehovah.

Jehovah does not want anyone to literally cut themselves in any way.

If you focus on killing children, drinking poison, and cutting off sex organs, then no. Your question is a big "no-no" in logic and reasoning, a fallacy called "the straw man." You're making an obviously weak target, that you can beat down easily. If you read the Bible, you'll know it doesn't focus on killing, drinking poison and cutting off sex organs. A lot of its teachings is actually about treating other people well. If you want to ask your question, make sure it's about the whole bible, and don't make a loaded question.

Ive never heard any scripture that tells us to kill children, drink poison or cut off our sex organs......the one about poison also mentions handling serpents but this part of scripture was found to be spurious and was not in the early manuscripts. But why is the bible beneficial.

“A BAGFUL of wisdom is worth more than one full of pearls,” observed the ancient patriarch Job, who was undoubtedly one of the richest men of his time. (Job 1:3; 28:18; 42:12) Truly, wisdom is worth far more than material possessions when it comes to helping a person to make a success of his life. “Wisdom is for a protection the same as money is for a protection,” said wise King Solomon, “but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners.”—Ecclesiastes 7:12.

2 tim 2:16 All scripture is inspired of God, and beneficial for teaching, reproving and setting things straight.

If you beleive in a God, then surely he gave us some sort of information on how to best live our lives...every day appliances come with instruction manuals, so why not humans....the bible is that book, but it is not just reading the bible that can help people, but we must apply what it says.

The bible gives us information on who created us, why we are here, where we are going, what is our future, and many other things. The bible some might say is an old book, and that is true, but the writing that are set down in the bible are beneficial and apply to us today. Family, life, marriage, cleanliness, how to treat others etc.

Kill children? Where does the Bible say to do that?

Drink poison? The Bible wasn't written by Jack Kevorkian.

Cut off our sex organs? Chapter and verse, please.

The teachings of the Bible can definitely improve our lives, not only on a personal level but also on a societal one. That's because they already have done so, many times, for thousands of years.

Hush hush. Please don't make sweeping statements like that.

Quote to me the exact book and verses in the Bible where those things you mentioned were written.

Rev 2:20-25 you quoted from was a warning that Jesus gave to the Church in Thyatira, a church which tolerated idol worshipping , eating of food offered to idols and sexual immorality.

"I will strike her children dead". Children here is referring to the followers of Jezebel : a very wicked woman who was mentioned in the Old Testament and was already dead several thousand years ago.

It cannot be a literal thing because Jezebel was dead long ago.
Also Jesus did not ask Christians to strike Jezebel's children dead. Read carefully : "I will strike..." Jesus Himself will do it .
Go and ask Jesus about this.

Jesus obviously was not referring to striking some physical children dead in this instance but was talking in metaphorical or symbolic terms about the "offspring of Jezebel" meaning the "followers of Jezebel's teachings will be stopped or removed".

Does it surprise you that God Himself killed all the first-born sons of the Egyptians just before Moses brought the Israelites to cross the Red Sea ?

Well, you can go argue with God on how cruel God is and shake your fist at God.

You and I are just like a "piece of clay" in a potter's hand.

I think you won't agree with me about what I've just explained, but I can't let ppl like you just say what you like without trying to understand first before making sweeping conclusions.

As for the other two instances about drinking poison and eunuchs, it is quite adequately explained by 'david s 'and 'pugwashjw'. I concur with them .

Its basically a book of common sense. The weird things you mention come from the fact that if your going to do nothing but screw up then just kill yourself so you won't spread your problem to others.

I suppose the basic rules are ok though most pious people bend them. Like, if you didnt covet your neighbours dish washing machine how come you bought one? One page is probably enough in my opinion....a ten point plan.....sorry bout losing the eternal life thingy chapters!

It is not the teaching that will improve our lives but on how we utilize and use these teaching. It is in the act of man that finds improvement, not on the things he know. one may know a lot but it cant improve you unless use use it to become great deeds.

your reading into symbolic sriptures and choosing to argue over them. There are 100 others that aply to us and how we should treat eachother that are appplicable to our lives and our betterment.
Do on to others as you would have them do on to you!
Honor your mother and you father.
Forgive your brother not 7 times but 77 times.
Dont go to sleep with hate in your heart or anger, but resolve it quickly b4 it festers.
