Politeness is a social lubricant the lack of it causes friction between people. So, yeah, it is important.

Yes! Being polite is very important to me. I am respectful and polite 99% of the time and that's how I like to be treated. I dislike gruff, rude, or abrasive people and they are usually the only ones who cause me to lose my temper and get a little rude myself.

I don't understand why some people are consistently rude. That's just totally out of my realm of understanding.

And what's with the people who work at fast food places these day? Depending on what area of the USA you live in, lots of the fast food workers don't even bother to say a half-hearted 'thank you' when they hand you your food. And if you say 'thank you' to them, they don't even respond at all.

Of course it is important to be polite, But not to the point of not being truthful. There is never a reason to hurt a persons feelings when it doesn't have to be.
If someone ask if I think something is pretty and I do not, I simply say what I think and if they get upset I just say " you ask!"

It also shows maturity.

It's more important to me to be real. Over-politeness comes off as being phoney. And I can't believe the amount of phoney a s s h o l e s in the business and retail worlds.

yes, it is important to me to be polite.

but, I gotta tell ya, for example, when i am shopping and walking down the aisle, and come into a person, who waits for me to say excuse me, then when I say excuse me, this person replies umm umm - this just turns me off, as, this person could have yielded, and then not say anything,,,its almost as if the person gave you permission because you are being polite...

so, sometimes being polite is not always in ones best interest.

well for me it depends upon the person you are being with because i can't claim that im polite because sometimes I might do wrong thing for right reason but i am trying not to do the right thing to be pleasing.
