The most important thing is to monitor how many calories you are taking in everyday. Work out your BMR and try to eat roughly this amount over a weekly period. This will allow you to have treats some days. (eg if your BMR is 2500 calories, eat 2000 for 6 days so that you can have a treat on the 7th day).

General guidelines:

Start the day off with a large bowl of porridge and honey.

Eat 5 portions of fruit & vegetables throughout the day.

Eat lots of chicken, turkey, rice, pasta, potatoes.

Grill your food instead of frying (so the fat drains away).

Limit your intake of red meat and dairy products.

Eat fish twice a week.

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

depends on what you have in mind. For every body type and every requirement there is definitely a good diet plan. Be more specific in your question.

you can try every diet out there, however, the best way is exercise and watch what you eat...dont deprive yourself from some of your favorites, if you want chocolate, have a little but then watch what you eat throughout the day. 40% carbs, 30%protein and 30% fats (not bad ones though)..you can do it!.
